Art Student Testimonials
Here's what Free Online Art Classes Students are saying about their art learning experience!
It's nice to know this site is available. I appreciate the quick response to individual questions. Thank you, John Ianniello dba/Murals and More ----- So far the online lessons I have made it through have been extremely informative and helpful, not just the techniques, but general information on how to not ruin your brushes, waste paint, etc. I thank you soooo much for making this available for people like me who can't get out and go to art lessons often enough to count, :p I do these when I get off work and have time and it's not stressful trying to work around my already hectic schedule, so thank you again. Kayla M. Gray ----- I'm really impressed that I got good drawing instruction for free! Thanks so much, Brian Dudley ----- I'm 60 and just getting back into art. My mother was an artist and I always wanted to be one too. I like the (acrylic) painting and I'm just finishing up the Intermediate! Never though I could paint so good! Eleanor Fuller ----- Lois, I enjoyed your newsletter and get a lot out of the visual you tubes. Your help and interest in my work keeps me challenged. Janice Stratton ----- Hello, I have been drawing portraits lately and feel your crosshatching method has been very helpful! My shading has improved immensely!I will work on the line drawing as soon as I have time! Rose ----- Please send link to basic drawing lessons--enjoyed your blot painting! Thank you, Phyllis ----- Your demos are great. What a fine way to get used to working with oil pastels. Dave Cornwell ----- Hi, my name is Pam and I just came across your website, surfing for information for wall mural stencils! I was just lucky with this search, I guess. I currently use acrylics to paint figures which I make from Sculpey/Fimo clay, mostly miniatures. But I have also painted with acrylics trying to learn from art books, but I have never painted anything I really liked that much. So I feel I need to start at the beginning and learn from a pro. Since I am now retired I have a lot of time to do this. Thanks a lot for providing this opportunity. Pam Castanera ----- "I used to love doing art but then life got it the way and all of a sudden it had been 10 years since I picked up a pencil to draw or a brush to paint. I decided to make time in my life for art again, but didn't know where to start and felt so rusty. While researching online I came across Lois' website and it was the answer I was looking for! Lois' lessons are great for beginner and experienced alike, they are very professional and really are free like the website says! I have run across other websites that make this claim and then follow with hidden fees. Not only are the lessons free, but Lois will help you every step of the way just by sending her pictures of your work in progress! These lessons are a valuable asset for anyone wanting to bring art back into their life, or dip their toes in for the first time." ~ Rene Wagenaar. ----- Hi Lois, I have always had an interest in drawing, but never the time to take a class. One day I decided to search the web and found your site. I love the fact that it offers not only drawing but other types of art classes. I can't wait to get started, this is soo exciting! Thanks so much for providing this resource! Jane M ----- ...I currently I'm working with a author for children's books and I'm doing some of the illustration. This has been a real challenge, but enjoying it. When I not at home my sketch pad goes with me and I'm practice on something all the time. I've taken my art more serious and have the time to do what I thought I would never be able to do and you have inspired me to make me realize a dream that I thought I wouldn't get to do in my life time. Will be sending a picture for you to look at and see where I need to do to improve. It may take a week or two, but you will hear from me. Janice ----- My six year old daughter and I love the Short/Sweet Art Projects! Dan Bentley ----- Hello Lois....In your introductory e-mail you asked about who I am. I'm retired. As I watched my triplet grandchildren drawing and creating fine looking artwork, I got to thinking about how much I had enjoyed drawing when I was about their age. My recollection is that I was pretty good but in truth probably not as good as my aging memory recalls.I do know, though, that I enjoyed it very much. So one day I sat down with paper and pencil to sketch a masterpiece only to find that all the talent I had as a teenager had been lost somewhere on my journey to senior citizenship. The desire, if not the ability, was there so I began searching the net for drawing lessons. I was surprised to find sites that actually provided free lessons. (I fully expected to pay for lessons) I was most impressed with your site so here I am....hoping to reawaken a long suppressed interest in the art of drawing. Darrell Larson ----- I am a software developer, working at Propalms, living in India. I decided to go for further studies in industrial designing and visual communications, thats why I searched for some drawing tutorials..and found your website. Your website is like a treasure. Am happy reading it.This is exactly what I was looking for.I will read it and will keep you posted with my progress. Again, Thanks a ton RegardsPankaj Gupta ----- Thanks Lois, I really enjoy your classes. It has really helped me improve my skill with various materials. Also, I love your voice on the videos...very relaxing. Gena Smith -----Hi Lois, To answer your questions, I live in Detroit, Michigan. I was doing alot of web browsing on the yahoo search engine looking for free art classes because right now, I cannot afford to pay to go to art school. So I was looking for free art lessons for the time being that would still provide the same kind of lessons to assist in my growth as an inexperienced artist. I came from a family of artists and the natural gift was passed down to me, however, I never took advantage of going to an art school to improve my craft. I look forward to your lessons filling that gap. Demetria Head ----- I work for a Recreation & Parks Department and I was online searching for some art projects to use for our summer day camp program (and secretly for myself to satisfy the little artist in me!) I look forward to taking some of your online lessons. Deb ----- Hi Lois, I was searching the web for ideas for me to teach K-3 students in an after school art program which meets for about 10 weeks in Spring and Fall. I have no art background but would like to teach art concepts to children to help them become independent thinkers. I've seen the results of children's artwork through a friend and loved the results. Children are not afraid to explore. I also have a deep desire to use my right brain. I live in Honolulu. Ranie Mulligan ----- Thank you for sending the links. I live in Sunnyvale, California. I came upon your site when I was searching the internet for some ideas for developing lessons for a free art class I wanted to offer kids in my neighborhood. Best regards,Saba ----- Hi there Lois Thank you for the reply. I am in Johannesburg, South Africa. (Where Soccer Fever is more important than art at the moment - our country is rocking and roaring with soccer and overseas visitors.) I am a parttime artist always browsing for ways to improve my painting. I actually do conceptual art and is already an advanced artist. I am always interested in the ways other people approach technique. Regards Christien ----- Good Day Lois, I want to thank you for the clear instructions in your online oil painting classes. I have not yet had a chance to do all the exercises, but I have read (at work) them carefully and I think you are a wonderful teacher. Your have made the instructions simple and yet comprehensive. I have recommended your site to another beginning artist to complement our class work. I am particularly interested in the intermediate class and I hope to incorporate your teaching into my next painting. Thank you for your generosity of spirit in sharing your knowledge. ----- I am truly amazed by 1.- your response and 2.- your prompt response. There is so much BS on the net today that I wasn’t sure if you we’re legit or not. Now your comments on my work gave me a super-boost. Thanks a lot, merci beaucoup! As for the unfinished portion of the canvas, I took this as an exercise and didn’t see the point in “wasting” more paint. This is my first try and don’t really think it will ever reach the Louvre. Again thank you very much, I really do appreciate, my donation is on it’s way. Oh and a little question: I skimmed over all your lessons and did not find any info on mediums (linseed oil etc.). I am truly in a fog as to the use of those different products. Do you know any place I can find info on these like what they do, when to use them etc. Thanks again. Claude Thibault ----- Ms. DeWitt, Thank you for the drawing with pencil and oil pastel video instruction.I live in Maryland and I was in a bind because my son's art teacher became ill in the last two weeks of class for the summer. I home school, so I googled free art classes on-line and found your website. We will be working on these lessons this week. They are having a great time with the doodling with pastels exercise. We plan on visiting some art museums next week to round out their introduction art experience. Thanks again, C Foster ----- Thank you. I found you through a google search on collograph printing and saw your demonstration on youtube.com. I enjoyed your watercolor painting of the tree on there as well. I am from the Orlando Florida area. Thanks again,Cheri Lamirande -----
